Clamp Meter
Triplett offer various models of digital clamp multimeters or clamp meters. Our selection features AC/DC clamp meters, mini clamp meters, and open jaw clamp meters, which are designed to measure current without damaging the conductor. Many models feature a large variety of measurement features including AC/DC voltage, capacitance, temperature, diode test, continuity and NCV detector. All our models are NIST traceable and feature certificate of traceability to NIST standards.
A clamp meter is used to measure the current carried by live wire. One does not need to cut the wire or disconnect the circuit to measure the current using a digital clamp meter. These devices combine a sensor and a multimeter. These clamp meters feature digital display and allows you to choose AC or DC current. You can set the measurement range depending on the current magnitude you wish to measure. This clamp tester is a device for electrician and technicians, who are into installation and maintenance in the utility sector, must have as it also offers a high level of safety.

Know More About Triplett Clamp Meter
What is Clamp Meter?
A clamp meter is a safe, convenient, and efficient way to measure current without having to use test leads. Since current flow through a conductor causes a magnetic field, the ac dc clamp meter can sense this field and provide a corresponding current reading (in amperes, or amps). Digital Clamp meters do not interrupt current flow allowing the technician to make the measurement quickly and safely. These meters are used for various applications such as testing for electrical shorts, identifying over-currents, and measuring DC voltage. The popularity of our AC/DC clamp meters can be attributed to several factors. First, they are easy to use and can be operated with one hand. Second, they are compact and portable, making them ideal for use in tight spaces. Finally, clamp meters are versatile and can be used to measure various electrical parameters.
Why True RMS Clamp-Ons?
A True RMS clamp meter more accurately measures AC (alternating current) signals. When measuring distorted or non-periodic AC waveforms, True RMS meters are essential. Standard meters, without True RMS, average the AC measurements and therefore are not as accurate for AC. True RMS (Root Mean Square) clamp meters are one of the most essential tools that engineers and technicians use in their work. These digital multimeters are especially important because they give you accurate readings even when the voltage is not constant. This is essential for troubleshooting electrical problems. True-RMS digital multimeters are different from other digital multimeters in that they use a specialized algorithm to calculate the RMS value of an AC signal. This allows them to provide accurate readings even when the waveform of the signal is not a perfect sine wave. If you need to measure AC signals, then a true-RMS digital multimeter is the best tool for the job. Although, RMS clamp meters are more expensive than other types of digital multimeters, their accuracy and versatility make them worth the investment.
Built-in IR Thermometer for quick and safe non-contact temperature measurements. Find hot spots fast!

What are the Types of Clamp Meters Offered at Triplett?
At Triplett, we provide various types of clamp meters to suit your needs.
- Open Jaw Clamp Meters: These clamp meters have open jaws, which allow them fit into tight spaces where jaw of a standard clamp meter fails to close. They can measure the AC current up to 200A without damaging the circuit.
- AC/DC Clamp Meter: Our Triplett Model CM450 True RMS clamp meter is the most popular AC/DC clamp meter on this list. It can measure DC and AC current up to 400A without damaging the circuit. It can be easily clamped around a single conductor.
- Mini Clamp Meters: These are compact sized clamp meters designed to be operate in small spaces. They can capture the instant surges when the current is turned on.
What is the Measurement Principle of AC/DC Clamp Meter?
Our AC/DC clamp meter works by clamping around a conductor, such as a wire, and then measuring the current flowing through the conductor. The working principle of the meter is relatively simple. When the jaws of the clamp meter are closed around a conductor, a magnetic field is generated. This magnetic field is used to measure the current flowing through the conductor. The strength of the magnetic field is proportional to the amount of current flowing through the conductor.
What are the Main Parts of the Clamp Meter?
There are three main parts to a clamp meter: the body, the jaws, and the display. The body of the clamp meter houses the electronics and the batteries. The jaws of the clamp meter are used to clamp around the conductor, and the display shows the current measurements. The other major parts of the unit are:
- Power Switch
- Back Light Button
- Hold Button
- Positive and Negative Terminals
- Hold Key
- Functional Rotary Switch
How to Use a Clamp Meter?
Here are the steps you need to take in order to use a clamp meter.
Select the right clamp meter for the job. There are several different types of clamp meters, so make sure you select the one that is best suited for the task at hand. Connect the jaws of the clamp meter around the conductor you want to measure. Make sure that the jaws are completely closed in order to get an accurate reading. This helps improve the gripping of the device. Take the measurement. The reading on the clamp meter will indicate the amount of current flowing through the conductor. Repeat the process as needed. You may need to take multiple measurements to get an accurate reading. When you're finished, remove the clamp meter from the conductor and turn it off.
Current Electrical Clamp Multimeter with DMM functionality
Triplett leads the market in multifunction current clamp meters. In the presence of high current flow, the need to measure volts, ohms, temperature, and frequency is imperative. Multifunction current clamp meters offer a value-added bonus for technicians, field engineers, and contractors.
What is the significance of the IR thermometer?
In areas where there are high current carrying conductors, safety is of utmost concern. With an IR thermometer built right into the clamp meter the technician can quickly and safely scan for ‘hotspots’ on panels, conduits, and walls.
We have an efficient team who can assist you in finding the correct DC and amp meter clamp that suits your application requirements.
