BNC Compression Connectors

Triplett offers a variety of BNC compression connectors made of sturdy metals such as zinc or brass with nickel finishes and with a center contact of gold plating. Most of them are easy to handle and without any loose contacts. They help maintain the dimensional stability of cables and prevent fluctuating cable ODs. We offer these connectors mainly in 50 and 75-ohm capacities. We also provide good quality crimp tools or BNC compression tools and other accessories to fix these connectors tightly.

BNC connectors are radio frequency connectors often used to connect coaxial cables to electronic devices in a network. BNC compression connectors are used to make fittings tight and water safe.

Know More About Triplett BNC compression connectors

What is a BNC compression connector?

A BNC compression connector is a specialized type of BNC connector that uses a compression-style fitting to securely attach the connector to a coaxial cable. The compression method implies improved fastening of the fittings and making them water tight. They help keep moisture and contamination at bay. A BNC compression connector is a radio frequency type of connector and is usually used to connect coaxial cables. There are various BNC compression tools, such as Twist-on, F-compression, F-crimp, and Crimp-on.

How do you use a BNC compression tool?

The BNC compression tools we provide may be either one-piece or two-piece ones. Ensure you have the right crimp tools when installing a BNC compression connectors on a cable. You can do away with the crimp tools or BNC compression tool for some connector types. However, using the right compression tool to compress the connector enhances its performance and reliability. Prepare the tool by removing the F-pin and screw it. Simply open the BNC connector and insert the cable. Before that, strip the cable portion if required. Lay the cable inserted into the compression BNC connector onto the tool and compress the connector by pressing the tool like a pair of tongs. This fixes the connector tightly and makes it moisture safe.

How do BNC compression fittings work?

The right compression tools work very well in terms of tight fitting. They can fit the connector permanently. These handy tools are multipurpose and hence carrying just one tool is enough. These are suitable for installation, tight fitting, and removal if required. You need to choose the right tool depending on the connector type, which means there are specific tools for each type- crimp tools for crimp connectors, twist-on tools for twist-on connectors, and so on.

Applications of BNC Compression Connectors:

BNC compression connectors find their home in a range of applications, including:

  • CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television): BNC compression connectors are commonly used in surveillance systems, ensuring that video signals from cameras are reliably transmitted to monitoring equipment.
  • Broadcasting: In the world of broadcasting, maintaining signal quality is paramount. BNC compression connectors are trusted for their ability to preserve the integrity of audio and video signals.
  • RF Applications: Radio Frequency systems require connectors that can handle high-frequency signals without signal loss or interference. BNC compression connectors are up to the task.
  • Networking: While less common in modern Ethernet networks, BNC connectors were once used in older Ethernet technologies and thinnet cabling systems.

How to Choose the Right BNC Compression Connectors for Your Applications?

Selection of the right BNC connectors requires attention to detail and some factor considerations to ensure a secure and reliable connection for your coaxial cables. Here are some essential factors that will help in making a decision.

  • Connector Type:Today, BNC connectors are available in different types such as straight, right-angle, and bulkhead connectors. Choose the type considering your application requirement.
  • Build Quality:The lifespan of the connectors is primarily based on their build quality. Choose the connectors made using high-quality materials to ensure durability and reliability. Brass connectors are commonly preferred owing to their excellent corrosion resistance. This makes them suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Connectors with gold-plated contacts are one popular example. These connectors are often preferred for better conductivity and corrosion resistance.
  • Cable Compatibility:The connector type you choose must be compatible with the existing coaxial cable. The cables are differentiated based on factors such as impedance, diameter, and more. Ensure the impedance of the connector matches with the coaxial cable. Most connectors are designed for 50-ohm or 75-ohm impedance cables.
  • Signal Integrity and Shielding:Environments with high electromagnetic interference (EMI) require good shielding for maintaining signal integrity. Ensure the connector provides adequate shielding to preserve the signal quality.
  • Frequency Range: It is also essential to check the frequency range of the connector when working with high-frequency signals. The connector should support the given frequency range without signal loss or distortion.
  • Ease of Installation:Compression connectors are preferred for their ease of installation and secure connection. However, some models may require specific tools.Compression connectors are preferred for their ease of installation and secure connection. However, some models may require specific tools.
  • Weatherproofing:This is beneficial when the connectors are preferred for outdoor use. These connectors are designed to prevent moisture ingress and protect the connection in harsh weather conditions.
  • Standards Compliance:The connectors must comply with industry standards. This is important for applications where specific standards need to be met.
  • Cost:It's important to consider your budget. That does not mean you need to compromise on quality. Investing in high-quality connectors can save you from potential issues in the long run.

What Are the Advantages of BNC Compression Connectors?

BNC compression connectors have gained immense traction owing to their beneficial features. Here are some benefits:

  • BNC connectors are known for offering secure and reliable connections, reducing the risk of loose connection. This is important if the equipment is subjected to vibration or movement.
  • These connectors are good at maintaining signal integrity. They reduce signal loss and protect against interference from external sources.
  • BNC connectors are made using high-quality materials; they are durable and resistant to wear and tear. This is useful in environments where they may be subjected to physical stress or harsh conditions.
  • Some BNC compression connectors are designed to be water resistant or weatherproof. This makes them suitable for outdoor as well as industrial environments.
  • Most connectors include features that reduce EMI. This is of utmost importance in maintaining the quality of the transmitted signal, especially in environments with high levels of interference.
  • Although, the initial cost of these connectors may seem high, their reliability and durability make them cost effective in the long run.
  • BNC connectors provide consistent performance over time, which is essential for applications requiring a stable and reliable connection.

How Are BNC Compression Connectors Different from Other BNC Connectors?

The main differentiating factor between BNC compression connectors and other BNC connectors is their installation method. As the name implies, they use a compression technique to offer a secure, reliable connection.

Can BNC Compression Connectors Be Reused?

No, they are not designed for reuse. Once compressed onto a cable, they are intended to remain in that place permanently.

Are Special Tools Required to Install BNC Compression Connectors?

Yes, you need a specific compression tool to install these connectors properly. This tool guarantees the connector is securely and correctly attached to the cable.

What is the Difference Between 50-ohm and 75-ohm BNC Connectors?

They are differentiated based on their impedance. 50-Ohm connectors are preferred in data and wireless communications, while 75-Ohm connectors are used in video and broadcasting.

What is the Correct Method for Crimping a BNC Connector?

Slide the BNC connector onto the stripped end of the coaxial cable. Ensure the center conductor is inserted into the connector's center pin. Once done, use a crimping tool to apply firm pressure and secure the connection.

What Precautions Should be Taken During the Installation of a BNC Connector?

Ensure the cable is adequately prepared and stripped. Check connector compatibility with the cable and application, avoid over-tightening, and test the connection after installation.
