Product Information

  • The Triplett TDR100 is a precision cable tester that uses TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer) technology to measure cable length.
  • It can be used for any cable consisting of at least 2 insulated metallic elements, one of which may be the sheath or shield of the cable.
  • The meter has automatic internal matching networks to allow testing with automatic selection range, which correspond to power, telephony, CAT V, LAN, etc. cables.
  • The meter can be closely matched with the cable under test using the function selection keys.
  • The velocity of propogation value (V.O.P.) can be similarly adjusted to match the cable under test, ensuring an accurate distance measurement.
  • It features a 2.4” TFT color display with an easy-to-use onscreen menu, 20 built-in groups of standard cable V.O.P.  (velocity of propagation) values, and 99 memory locations store traces for future analysis.
  • An Auto-Sensitivity function provides a closer match to a wide range of cables with only the V.O.P. settings required.
  • The meter comes complete with 2 AA batteries, BNC (M) connector to standard test leads, BNC (M) connector to alligator clips, BNC (M) connector to (M) F connector, and carrying case.
  • 1-year warranty.

A cable length tester, also referred to as a cable length meter, is a portable device utilized to measure the length of different cable types, including coaxial, twisted pair, and Ethernet cables. This tool offers precise cable length measurements, facilitating cable installations, troubleshooting, and network maintenance tasks.
A TDR (Time-Domain Reflectometer) cable tester is an advanced cable testing device that harnesses TDR technology to identify cable faults and measure cable lengths. By sending electrical pulses into the cable, it analyzes the reflections of these pulses to detect faults, impedance mismatches, or cable discontinuities with precision.
A cable length tester works by sending electrical signals into the cable being tested and measuring the time taken for the signal to travel down the cable and return as a reflected signal. By knowing the velocity of propagation of the cable, the tester calculates the cable length based on the time taken for the signal to travel.
Yes, cable length testers, including TDR network cable testers, are designed to measure the length of network cables like Ethernet and twisted pair cables.
Basic cable length testers are generally user-friendly and straightforward to operate. However, TDR cable testers may require some training or familiarity with the technology and interpreting the results for more advanced cable diagnostics.
Yes, cable length testers are designed to measure cables of varying lengths, from short patch cables to longer cables used in infrastructure installations.
The minimum distance is greater than 5 meters. The maximum distance depends on the cable's V.O.P (Velocity of Propagation) 3.0km@V.O.P≤99.9%, 2.4km@V.O.P≤80.0%, 2.0km@V.O.P≤66.0%, 1.5km@V.O.P≤50.0%.
