A desktop CO2 logger/monitor is a device designed to measure and display the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air within a closed environment, such as an office, classroom, or home.
Monitoring CO2 levels indoors is crucial for assessing air quality. Elevated CO2 levels can indicate poor ventilation and may lead to discomfort, drowsiness, and reduced cognitive function. It can also be an indirect indicator of the potential for virus transmission.
These devices typically use non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensors to measure CO2 concentration. The sensor emits infrared light through the air, and the amount of light absorbed by CO2 molecules is used to calculate the CO2 concentration.
The ideal indoor CO2 level is typically considered to be below 800 parts per million (ppm). Levels above this may indicate insufficient ventilation.
They are used in various settings, including offices, classrooms, laboratories, greenhouses, homes, and commercial buildings, to monitor indoor air quality and ensure proper ventilation.
Yes, monitoring CO2 levels can help optimize ventilation systems, potentially reducing energy consumption while maintaining indoor air quality.
