The FM260 Formaldehyde and TVOC Meter is calibrated at the factory and does not require any further calibration. Its precise fuel cell technology sensor is designed to provide many years of reliable service without the need for re-calibration.
If you wanted to periodically check to make sure the unit is accurate yourself, you would invest in some formaldehyde reference calibration gases. The range of this meter is 0.00 to 5.00 mg/m³ (or PPM) so you would want to find a gas in this range and then you’d have to set up some sort of chamber or stable temperature, humidity, and pressure environment. The less expensive option may be to find a calibration lab that offers this type of service and see if they can verify it and provide you with a NIST certificate.

Here is some online information that may help you - GASCO Formaldehyde Calibration Test Gas.

If you are looking for what a “good, bad” reading should be – I would suggest you look at the latest OSHA standard guidelines here for this type of info as they are always changing and depend on environments – closed/open etc. This can be found here: 1910.1048 - Formaldehyde. | Occupational Safety and Health Administration (osha.gov)
The FM260 utilizes a fuel cell type sensor. It uses the same type sensor for both TVOC and HCHO.
The FM260 is calibrated to the standards specified in the user manual before it leaves the factory. The unit should arrive to you ready to use (unless the battery requires charging).
A TVOC Meter or Tester is a handheld or portable device designed to measure and quantify the total concentration of volatile organic compounds in the air. It helps identify potential sources of indoor air pollution and aids in maintaining a healthy living or working environment.
A Formaldehyde meter or formaldehyde tester or HCHO/CH₂O meter is an instrument used to measure the levels of formaldehyde (HCHO/CH₂O) gas in the air. It assists in monitoring and controlling formaldehyde levels to ensure better indoor air quality. Formaldehyde (HCHO/CH₂O) is a common indoor air pollutant emitted from various sources, including building materials, furniture, and household products.
Measuring TVOC is important for assessing indoor air quality, as elevated levels of volatile organic compounds can contribute to health issues, discomfort, and poor air quality. Monitoring TVOC levels helps identify potential sources of pollution and enables corrective actions to be taken.
TVOC meters and testers work by using sensors that can detect and measure volatile organic compounds in the air. These sensors respond to specific chemicals commonly found in indoor environments and provide readings indicating the concentration of TVOC.
Measuring formaldehyde (HCHO/CH₂O) is important due to its potential health risks. Prolonged exposure to elevated levels of formaldehyde can lead to respiratory and other health problems. Monitoring formaldehyde levels helps ensure a safe and healthy indoor environment.
Yes, TVOC meters are suitable for home use and are commonly used by homeowners, renters, and building managers to assess indoor air quality. They provide valuable information about the presence of potentially harmful compounds in the air.
Yes, formaldehyde meters are often used in workplaces, especially in industries where formaldehyde exposure is a concern, such as manufacturing, construction, and laboratories. Regular monitoring helps comply with safety regulations and protect workers' health.
Some advanced meters may be able to detect and measure other indoor pollutants or gases, but their primary focus is on TVOC and formaldehyde. It's important to check the specifications of the specific meter or tester to understand its capabilities.
