Real World Certifier – Network Cable Certifier

A real world certifier is nothing but a network cable certifier or tester that is a handy pen-like device. It is used to check the status and condition of a network cable, such as slow ones, wrongly wired ones, bad connectors, and more. At Triplett, we offer a variety of network cable certifiers for Cat5, Cat6, and other Ethernet cables among others. These Ethernet cable certifiers we offer can not only detect cable-related issues but also communication issues from connectors, switches, computers, and other connected devices. These devices are also used to test crosstalk and cable construction aside from opens, shorts, wire mapping faults, and so on.

Know More About Triplett Network Cable Certifier

What are Network Cable Certifiers?

These are basically network cable testers used to validate and certify copper-based data cables of all types such as coaxial, Ethernet, and more. These devices are designed and function as per the TIA or ISO standards, which means a network cable certifier can determine if a cable link complies with TIA or ISO.

Types of Network Cable Certifiers

There are two broad categories of copper cable certifiers. After the cable is checked, the device generates a detailed report which can be sent to a connected device such as a computer.

  • Level 1 Cable Certifiers: Network engineers use level 1 cable certifiers to verify the installation of twisted pair copper cables and ensure they meet the required industry standards and network speed specification. Level 1 cable certifiers are used to certify Ethernet cable types such as Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A, and Cat 7. They validate these installations based on TIA/EIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801 standards. They check parameters such as length of the cable, signal propagation and attenuation, wire mapping, and more.
  • Level 2 Cable Certifiers: Level 2 implies the next level, and hence this certifier has advanced features. They can check and certify copper cable as well as fiber optic cable installations. Level 2 cable certifiers ensure the network cable installation meets the industry standards for high-speed data transmission and hence have a broad range of testing capabilities for both copper and fiber cables. They are definitely more expensive and complex compared to level 1 certifiers and are best suited for blended networks. Apart from all the basic tests that level 1 certifiers perform, level 2 certifiers can also check optical loss measurements and polarity issues for fiber optic cables. They also have the OTDR tool for troubleshooting fiber optic cables.

Benefits of Network Cable Certifiers

Assurance and certification of cable performance in itself is a huge benefit. Aside from this, here are some more benefits of real world certifiers.

  • They assure support and guarantee in terms of specific transmission rates, bandwidths, signal propagation, and so on. They also assure reduction of crosstalk and noise, signal attenuation based on cable length, and more.
  • Cable certifiers are also troubleshooting tools that can quickly identify issues in wire mapping, opens, shorts, incorrect terminations, and more, which can be fixed immediately. This increases safety and prevents the possibility of hazards.
  • They not only optimize network performance but also certify and validate cable installations and generate certificates and comprehensive documentation.
  • The Triplett cable and power test kits we offer combine the high performance real world certifier that can store 250 reports with a Power Panel CAT5/6 DVM tester for comprehensive testing and troubleshooting of test cables and devices on Cat 5/6 cable networks.

Compatibility with Cable Types

There are specific level 1 cable certifiers that are designed for copper cables, while level 2 certifiers are for fiber and copper cables. Aside from this, Triplett offers specifically designed Cat5 cable certifiers, Cat6 cable certifiers, and more.

  • Cat6 Cable Certifiers: These are used for Cat6 cables in Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet cable installations. Some Cat6A certifiers are advanced level 2 and can check for high data rates in networks.
  • Cat5 Cable Certifiers: These are widely used for Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet network cables. These are mainly level 1.
  • LAN Cable Certifiers: Also known as copper cable certifiers, they are basic level 1 devices that check the performance of twisted pair copper cables in a LAN environment. They ensure the quality and performance of the LAN infrastructure.

Importance of Cable Certification in Networking

Cable certification offers several benefits. It helps in future proofing of cables and the infrastructure. This is essential for network users and engineers to be assure of network performance and safety. This is also crucial in today’s fast-paced environment, wherein humongous amounts of data packets get transmitted over large distances and there is a huge requirement of high-speed data transmission networks with a robust infrastructure.

What is the difference between cable certifier and cable tester?

Cable testers are basic devices that check the given parameters such as opens, wire mapping, and more. They are suitable for small scale installations. These devices do not measure the performance of the cable in terms of transmission parameters, such as cross talk, attenuation, data loss, and so on. Cable testers are generally used during the cable installations or troubleshooting to check if the cables have been properly terminated in a network or are physically intact.

Cable certifiers are advanced devices, which are used to certify and assess the performance of a cable against various industry devices, such as ISO and TIA. These devices are used to check installation parameters, as well as transmission parameters, such as attenuation, data loss and cross talk. The measured data is often compared with specific data to determine if the cable meets the data transmission requirements set by different standards. Like cable testers, cable certifiers are also used during the installation process. Additionally, they can be used during certification processes, too. These devices help ensure if the installed cables support the data rates and specific network technologies.
